Serving the Game of Volleyball

As a young child, Max Nuon immigrated from Cambodia to the current volleyball hotbed of Madison Wisconsin. Following graduation in 1987 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served until 1995, which included the Gulf War. In 1988 while stationed in Southern California, Max was fully introduced to beach volleyball when he saw legendary players Tim Hovland and Mike Dodd play Randy Stoklos and Sinjin Smith on their base, Camp Pendleton, and he instantly fell in love with the sport.

Building Stronger Minds: How Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy Uses Neurofuel To Transform Athlete Performance

What began as an experiment for a couple handful of teams has now evolved into one of the most comprehensive mental training initiatives in the region. The spark came from within: one of Michigan Elite’s assistant coaches, who had relied on Neurofuel herself during an injury at Michigan State University. Visualization sessions kept her game-ready during recovery, and the experience made her a passionate advocate for integrating mental training into club culture.
